A Lazy Old Day…

Today started off with a couple of hours of work (a short day because my work family were heading off to Spain for a week! Jealous!) and then ended with a whoooollee lot of lazy relaxing.  I guess last night’s Fancy date night took it out of me!

< Side Note > The sky looked like this for a lot of the day…

Sky Patterns!

I LOVE when the sky is like this.  It’s like the sky is making patterns, beautiful!

Lunch…

Lunch today was a bit of a snack attack.  I was having a hard time committing to one meal.  One minute I was in the mood for eggs, the next a sandwich, the next…donuts! So, I decided to have a couple of different snacks to get me through my midday meal.

I started off with some Ritz crackers topped with muenster cheese.

Lunch snack # 1!

I paired the crackers with a handful of raspberries.

Lunch snack number two was the real winner! I opted for a whole wheat tortilla topped with peanut butter and a handful of Kashi Go Lean Crunch.  Ahhh yum!

This little baby packed a protein punch, and was delicious!  A nice hot cup of tea rounded out my snack attack lunch.

Hello old friend!

The majority of my afternoon was taken up with a nice Skype chat with my sissy and my mum and then I had a nice old nanna nap.  I blame the nap entirely on this girl…

Sleepy Girl!

She looked so comfortable! Can’t you just hear her coaxing me, “come on human mummy, you know you want to nap”.  You were right again Annie girl! A nap was just what I needed!

After some quality House Hunters watching (and dying inside at the prices of homes in San Francisco), Chris came home and dinner time had rolled around!

Thank you Lentil Soup for providing yet another delicious meal.

This time I paired the deliciousness with a slice of buttered whole wheat toast.  Perfecto!

Needless to say, today was a no-workout day.  I’m excited to get a nice sweat on tomorrow.  Who’s going to join me?

Now I’m off to shower and hit the sack.  Sweet dreams world!

Fancy Shmancy Date Night!

Last night was an extra fun fancy shmancy date night for Chris and I.  We had been saving our credit card cash back rewards to go out for a nice dinner and it just so happened that last night was the night!

Living in San Francisco, we are spoiled for choice with amazing restaurants.  We decided to choose one we hadn’t been to before, and we were both searching for the same thing; great food, cozy interior and a generally great time.  We went over the list of places on our ‘to do’ list and were both in favor of ‘La Folie‘ on Polk Street, so ‘La Folie’ it was!

I was excited to be able to wear a new dress I originally bought for our time in Hawaii but didn’t actually get a chance to wear!

Blue lace dress…

I like this dress because it’s business in the front….

Sass!

With just a touch of sass in the back.  Love a little bit of back sass!

After some prepping, Chris and I were ready for our fancy date night.

Date night!

We headed off to ‘La Folie’ where we both decided on the four-course meal.  Four courses!!! I was nervous at the anticipation of stomaching four whole courses!  Luckily, I suffered through it 😉

We started off with an ‘amuse bouche’ of turnip soup with egg yolk served in an egg shell with a little pice of brioche and a super thin potato chip! Yum!

Egg yolk and turnip soup…

I was then delivered pumpkin soup, which was served with homemade marshmallows and butternut squash gnocchi.

My second course was Butter poached lobster served with a frisee salad, on top of a giant ravioli!

Butter poached lobster!

My third course was duck breast that was supposed to be served with a duck confit.  Unfortunately, my garlic allergy led me to being served two ginormous duck breasts.  Don’t get me wrong,  I love duck but even I can’t eat that much Daffy!

A whooolle lotta duck!

And finally the last course, ohhhh dessert.  My dessert was delicious!  I opted for the classic chocolate fondant with chocolate ganache and a super thin strawberry biscuit, it was yum yum!

Chocolate fondant with chocolate ganache..and deliciousness!

And then (as if we hadn’t had enough) we were served a plate of delicious petit fours.

Petit Fours

The petit fours might have actually been my favourite part of the whole dinner, they were amazing!

Our date night was awesome! BUT we weren’t entirely blown away.  I think that might be one downfall of living in San Francisco, extremely high expectations! But we had a lot of fun and it was nice to get dressed up and enjoy the night, and a couple of glasses of wine…

Wine lover!

Overall, ‘La Folie’ was great, but not the best meal we have ever had.  Would I go back? Yup! In a heartbeat? Maybe not.

Happy Thursday folks!

I hope some of you got to or get to dress up for a night on the town!

Date night!

Impromptu Date Night and Breakfast Quinoa.

Last night Chris and I headed out to meet our friends Jessica and Dylan at their house, have a catch up and see their baby boy Mac who is now 11 weeks old! It’s crazy how time flies.  We spent a couple of hours chatting and catching up about the wedding etc over a couple of glasses of wine.

When we left their house, it was around 9pm and Chris and I suddenly discovered that we were starving! There is a very cute little french bistro called L’ardoise near their house that we first saw over a year ago when we walked past on our way to Pottery Barn to buy a coffee table for our engagement (talk about time flying!).  So we walked down there to see if they could squeeze us in.

We sat down in this incredibly cute, cozy and intimate bistro and had a truly delicious meal.  This was one of those places that’s dark and lit by old Parisienne style lamps and where the servers were actually French! Bonus!

I had the braised lamb shank served with mashed potato, spinach and a tomato jus (yum!) and Chris opted for the hangar steak (also yum!).

L’ardoise braised lamb shank goodness.

But the real star of the show was the dessert we shared.  We split the ‘Isles Flotant’ or Floating Island served with strawberries.  Ahhhhh this was awesome! It was light and fluffy and meringue deliciousness.

Isles Flotant

And that rounded off our fun impromptu date night.  Good times!

……………………

This morning started off with a little game of hide-and-seek with a certain white fluffy lady.  I actually couldn’t find her for a little while until I lifted up the comforter and…

Hide and Seek Annie!

Found you!

Breakfast…

After lazing around for a little while, I decided it was time to hop to and make some breakfast.  Since I’ll be out getting my massage (yes!!!) over lunchtime, I wanted a breakfast with some staying power.  So, I opted for a quinoa breakfast bowl.  It really is amazing what this stuff can do.

Quinoa

Breakfast Quinoa

Yield 1 Serving.

What You Need;

1C Skim milk plus extra for serving

1/2 C rinsed Quinoa

2 Tbs Wheat Germ (optional)

3 Tbs Brown Sugar plus extra for serving (optional)

1/4 tsp Cinnamon plus extra for serving (optional)

1 Handful of Blueberries plus extra for serving (optional)

What You Do;

In a small saucepan, bring the milk to a boil.

Add in the rinsed quinoa, bring back to a boil and then turn to low and simmer with the lid on until 3/4 of the milk has been absorbed (around 20 minutes).

Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, cover again and let simmer until almost all milk has been absorbed (7-10 minutes).

*This step is optional* Add 2 Tbs of wheat germ to the quinoa stirring quickly (this really adds to the thickening of the quinoa and also adds a nice nutty flavour).

Stir in the blueberries over the low heat for approximately 30 seconds and then remove from heat.

Serve with an extra splash of milk, sugar, blueberries or whatever takes your fancy, and ENJOY!

Delicious!

This breakfast really hit the spot! Now I am off to get some things done around the apartment before heading off for my massage, hooray!
