This morning started off with some high levels of frustration (continued from last night). I am in the process of trying to migrate this blog over to wordpress.org (the full on hosted blogging platform), after I purchased my domain nam (.com) and chose a hosting server. Does this sound like a complete nonsense to you? Me too! I feel like I’m literally trying to communicate in a different language. It’s such a weird feeling, I always knew I was relatively computer-slow but now I know I am computer illiterate!
Computer issues are just so incredibly frustrating!
To try to ease some frustration (and since it’s still raining outside) I decided a little morning yoga might do the trick! Yoga is probably the only thing that I don’t have on DVD, so I turned to my old friend ‘on demand’ to search for a good yoga workout.
If you haven’t tried out ‘on demand’ for working out, I highly recommend it! Anything you’re looking for, you can find. They even have quickie 10 minute workouts for specific body areas. Give it a try!
I decided on a 40 minute ‘yoga for all’ workout, and it did the trick! I definitely felt more relaxed, generally calm and well and truly streeettcchhed after the 40 minute cycle. Success!
Today I was feeling eggy! I opted for a fried egg sandwich with muenster cheese and a little spread of strawberry jam. I first saw the pairing of eggs and strawberry jam over at peanut butter fingers and thought “that’s crazy…and I like it!”. And believe you me, it works! A little sweet, a little salty, a little melty, delicious!
I served it up on a toasted whole grain english muffin. The cheese was melty, and the egg was runny…just the way I like it!
I topped it off with half of one of my Pumpkin Muffins. A good way to start my Saturday, even if someone was very obviously making eyes at my muffin!
Our plans for today are a little up in the air due to the craptastic weather, so I think we’ll be playing it by ear.

This afternoon, the dreariness continued. It was officially a rainy day in the Bay!
Due to the rain, my run for the day was out of the cards. I decided a workout DVD would be perfect for today! I perused my vast collection of DVD’s and decided that an Insanity workout would do the trick nicely.
I opted for Cardio Core and Balance today. Nothing, and I mean nothing makes me sweat like Insanity does. I love these workouts. I would do the full Insanity course if I didn’t get bored so easily of doing the same thing, but nevertheless, I love popping one of these in to work up a really good sweat!
The Cardio Core and Balance routine included a lot of core work (bet you didn’t guess that from the title) and lots of air punching! Air punches are one of my favourite things to do in a workout, I love really crunching in my core and feeling like a crazed boxer woman! I usually have the most ridiculous face when I’m fake boxing, a mix between happiness and pain. Anyone else??
With my workout done for today, I thought it would be a good idea to start a Weekly Workout Wrap up on Fridays.
Here’s what my week looked like;
Saturday; 2.6 Mile run
Sunday; 3 Mile walk
Monday; 4.5 Mile run + 25 Push Ups + 50 Crunches
Tuesday; Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred level 3
Wednesday; 9 Minute Plank Workout + Scissor Crunches
Lunch today was a pretty simple affair!
I opted for a whole wheat tortilla topped with deli ham, muenster cheese and sliced red peppers.
I paired it with a couple of baby carrots and called it a day!
A simple, yet effective lunch!
Tonight I picked Chris up from the Caltrain station in Millbrae and we headed on down to Pacifica so Chris could buy a new stomp pad for his board. We decided that since we were down there, we’d grab some dinner at one of our favourite places, The Surf Spot. I didn’t snap any photos because I decided to be offline for the evening’s meal but we enjoyed a charcuterie plate and some portobello spears followed by a delicious, delicious, delicious pizza! I also had a moscow mule (vodka with ginger beer) and Chris had the special margarita that was made with jalapeno simple syrup! Yum!
Now we’re planning on having a nice relaxing night.

With the drizzly, dreary weather outside, I got the urge to bake. And bake I did!
I popped on the ‘Rockin’ Holidays’ Pandora station (getting a liiitttlllee ahead of myself!) and got to work in the kitchen. There’s just something about playing Christmas music that makes baking even more fun!
Muffins were on the agenda today and after looking through what I have in the cabinets, I came up with these ‘Perfect for Fall’ Pumpkin Muffins!
I gathered my ingredients up and was ready to go.
I started by mixing together all the dry ingredients in a medium mixing bowl.
The ‘wet’ ingredients were combined in my trusty kitchen aid, and then the dry ingredients were slowly added.
The delicious additions (chopped walnuts and choc chips) were then folded into the mix.
Into a sprayed muffin tin went the mix, and baked for 23 minutes. Yep, 23! How’s that for precise?!
And I ended up with these little beauties…
And they were GOOD!
So, here’s the scoop…
‘Perfect for Fall’ Pumpkin Muffins – Yield 10 muffins
What You Need;
1C All Purpose Flour
1C Oats (I used old-fashioned)
1/2 C Packed Brown Sugar (I used light brown sugar)
1tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 1/4 C Canned Pumpkin
1 Tbs Canola Oil
1/4 C Chopped Walnuts
1/4 C Choc Chips (I used semi-sweet)
What You Do;
Pre-heat oven to 375F/ 190C
Spray a muffin tin with non-stick spray or use individual muffin liners.
Mix dry ingredients (without walnuts and choc chips) in a medium mixing bowl until combined
In an electric mixer, combine the pumpkin, egg and oil.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet, stirring slowly until well combined.
Fold in the walnuts and choc chips.
Spoon mixture into muffin tin (I filled 10 muffin spots).
Bake for 20-24 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean and muffin springs back when touched.
Allow to cool for as long as you can on a wire rack before devouring! I didn’t last long!
Most importantly, enjoy!
These made for a perfect mid-morning snack and are pretty darn healthy to boot! Bonus!

Since my work family are away in Spain over Thanksgiving, I have a nice little day off today. ‘Bonus’ you say? Totally…until you realize you’re not being paid for a week and a half, boooo!
Let’s back track a little to last night, shall we?
When I took my tired little self upstairs last night, I got to my bed and was surprised to see that a certain something had taken my place. Want to know how you know your husband is addicted to surfing? When this happens…
Yes, that is Chris spooning with his newest surf board! Oh Oh, not even a month in to marriage and I’ve been replaced! This is just a little taste of what life with Chris is like, he also likes to hide every chance he gets, jump out and scare the bejeebuzz out of me!
This morning came a little too fast for my liking thanks to a certain little lady! Chris had left bright and early in search of some surf before work and I was woken shortly after 6 by a crazed Annie jumping on and off the bed, scratching, rattling her collar and licking my face. Grrrrrrr Annie!!! I took her out for a quick walk and was greeted by a rainy old day (putting my running plans on hold!).
I assumed that she had just needed to go out and that’s why she was waking me up, but it turned out Chris had already taken her out just before he left! What a little sneaky dog. I wanted to be mad at her for waking me up much earlier than I had planned for today but really, how can you stay mad at this face?
After reading my book for a little while in bed my stomach started grumbling, breakfast time! I popped the kettle on for my morning dose of tea and put together a nice bowl of oats, granola, yogurt, chia seeds and raspberries.
Today’s yogurt flavour was Chobani Greek Peach non-fat.
Breakfast was tasty and filling this morning!
I just love starting my day with rolled oats. Hot, cold, overnight…they always leave me feeling nicely full and ready for the day.
I plan to let my breakfast digest for a while before either hitting the gym or popping in a good workout DVD.

One of my favourite stories is from a friend of a friend whose husband used to climb up to the ceiling in their hallways (spider monkey style) and then drop down on her from above! Ha! Can you imagine?!
Today started off with a couple of hours of work (a short day because my work family were heading off to Spain for a week! Jealous!) and then ended with a whoooollee lot of lazy relaxing. I guess last night’s Fancy date night took it out of me!

Lunch today was a bit of a snack attack. I was having a hard time committing to one meal. One minute I was in the mood for eggs, the next a sandwich, the next…donuts! So, I decided to have a couple of different snacks to get me through my midday meal.
I started off with some Ritz crackers topped with muenster cheese.
I paired the crackers with a handful of raspberries.
Lunch snack number two was the real winner! I opted for a whole wheat tortilla topped with peanut butter and a handful of Kashi Go Lean Crunch. Ahhh yum!
This little baby packed a protein punch, and was delicious! A nice hot cup of tea rounded out my snack attack lunch.
The majority of my afternoon was taken up with a nice Skype chat with my sissy and my mum and then I had a nice old nanna nap. I blame the nap entirely on this girl…
She looked so comfortable! Can’t you just hear her coaxing me, “come on human mummy, you know you want to nap”. You were right again Annie girl! A nap was just what I needed!
After some quality House Hunters watching (and dying inside at the prices of homes in San Francisco), Chris came home and dinner time had rolled around!

This time I paired the deliciousness with a slice of buttered whole wheat toast. Perfecto!
Needless to say, today was a no-workout day. I’m excited to get a nice sweat on tomorrow. Who’s going to join me?

Last night was an extra fun fancy shmancy date night for Chris and I. We had been saving our credit card cash back rewards to go out for a nice dinner and it just so happened that last night was the night!
Living in San Francisco, we are spoiled for choice with amazing restaurants. We decided to choose one we hadn’t been to before, and we were both searching for the same thing; great food, cozy interior and a generally great time. We went over the list of places on our ‘to do’ list and were both in favor of ‘La Folie‘ on Polk Street, so ‘La Folie’ it was!
I was excited to be able to wear a new dress I originally bought for our time in Hawaii but didn’t actually get a chance to wear!
I like this dress because it’s business in the front….
With just a touch of sass in the back. Love a little bit of back sass!
After some prepping, Chris and I were ready for our fancy date night.
We headed off to ‘La Folie’ where we both decided on the four-course meal. Four courses!!! I was nervous at the anticipation of stomaching four whole courses! Luckily, I suffered through it ;)
We started off with an ‘amuse bouche’ of turnip soup with egg yolk served in an egg shell with a little pice of brioche and a super thin potato chip! Yum!
I was then delivered pumpkin soup, which was served with homemade marshmallows and butternut squash gnocchi.
My second course was Butter poached lobster served with a frisee salad, on top of a giant ravioli!
My third course was duck breast that was supposed to be served with a duck confit. Unfortunately, my garlic allergy led me to being served two ginormous duck breasts. Don’t get me wrong, I love duck but even I can’t eat that much Daffy!
And finally the last course, ohhhh dessert. My dessert was delicious! I opted for the classic chocolate fondant with chocolate ganache and a super thin strawberry biscuit, it was yum yum!
And then (as if we hadn’t had enough) we were served a plate of delicious petit fours.
The petit fours might have actually been my favourite part of the whole dinner, they were amazing!
Our date night was awesome! BUT we weren’t entirely blown away. I think that might be one downfall of living in San Francisco, extremely high expectations! But we had a lot of fun and it was nice to get dressed up and enjoy the night, and a couple of glasses of wine…
Overall, ‘La Folie’ was great, but not the best meal we have ever had. Would I go back? Yup! In a heartbeat? Maybe not.
